This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of working my first event as a "Promotional Model" a new part time job of mine. The event was the annual For Sisters Only which was held in DC at the Washington Convention Center. I was a "Qream Girl" lol, and if you don't know, Qream is Pharrell's new liquor which came out about two months ago. Qream comes in two flavors, strawberry and peach with wonderful fruity and vanilla cream notes, silky and smooth in texture. Women love it, we got some great feed back from the ladies at For Sisters Only.

For my first time I was told I did a really great job. I had a great time, but I will never wear thos 6.5 inch heels to do a job again.. (Thats probably a lie though lol)

So today I had a slight convo with a friend of mine's coworker; a young man basically stating that the reason women go natural is much deeper than just deciding to stop chemically processing their hair. To a certain extent I agree with him, and then you have some women who do if for that reason, and that reason alone. All stories are different and all women go natural for different reasons. So for my natural haired readers, and even those contemplating the transition to natural what is your story? Why did you decide to go natural, or why are you thinking about going natural now?

Today was a great day. I got up left the house and shot with my great photographer friend Dizzy; 2 locations, and 2 outfits. I'm happy with the turnout and can't wait to see the edited photos. During my outfit change I helped a little girl wash her hands.. felt like a big sister or something lol. Then I gave some great natural hair care advice. I aspire to inspire. Hope you guys had a great productive day.

Working hard, trying to stay focused on the big picture. I have a lot in the works.. in my head lol, I just need to set goals and meet them. I'm very big on self motivation and doing things to better yourself and propel yourself forward in whatever it is you want to do with your life... Giving myself daily pep talks lol...

Anyway, I'm working on some accessories(bracelets to be exact), designing for House of Kas (Now Lead Assistant Designer), updating my fashion blog My Designer Dreams (I'd like to revamp the layout with some help), and possibly dabbling in some video where I talk about my outfit for that day..so on and so forth blah blah blah lol

All the while looking for a more stable job to bring in the amount of income I need to help make some of these things possible, and to pay some bills, move out.. Story of a struggling creative.

This past weekend was HUGE. Full of running around, fitting models, approving hair and make up, yelling at ppl lol.

The House of Kas Anniversary Fashion Show has been by far the biggest fashion show I have worked on thus far. People are always calling me "Baby Kas" and I really do feel like that lol. I got some great news, cried, got stressed a little bit, cried some more lol, didn't get any sleep really.. This is my life

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to shoot for Mwari Magazine showcasing Newly Renovated Designs, and as usual I had a blast. I don't say I'm a model, maybe I should start? Idk lol.. But moving along; our meeting locations was Sova Expresso and Wine located on Hst NE in DC. This place is so cute, they have great pinnini's and the humus.. AMAZE..

This upstairs area gave a really nice vintage artsy vibe, old tables and chairs.. even an old chest was used as a bench, very creative.. And I loved the art work on the walls

This past weekend I had the BEST foodie experience at this new Italian Pizzeria at the National Harbor called Fiorella.

The ingredents were FRESH and delicious.. I'm talking, cream mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes, prosciutto, arugala, balsamic vinegarette, and shaved parmesan cheese

If you are ever in the area go here and get anything off the menu. It was my first time but I WILL be back.. do you see how fresh this looks?!? OMG lol

Natural Hair Update

Hey guys.. quick update on my Natural Hair. Unfortunately I have no photos right now.. Blame my cellular phone issues lol. For about a month and a half (beginning in February and ending then begenning of March) I had my hair in a Protective Style. For my first braided extention experience I got Senagalese twists and my hair is thanking me for it now.

I might have gotten a half an inch to an inch of growth =) Remember this post where I was battling with my hair? Well I think my issue has finally been resolved. My scalp was just DRY resulting in my hair feeling super dry and brittle. I may do a mild protien treatment in the near future also. But letting my hair rest and applying oil to my scalp regularly as well as going back to the products that I first started using during my transition has my hair feeling like its old self again. And I'm happy about that. Hope you guys are doing well.

I have recently come to the conclusion that my hair is lacking moisture and doesn't retain water like it used to..

My current regimen and products must not be working for me,

so I think I am going to discontinue the use of these Carol's Daughter products and switch back to all the products I used to use when I started transitioning..

I guess the saying is right, "if it aint broke, dont try to fix it" lol

=( this makes me sad that my hair isn't a fluffy fro at the moment.

Any tips you guys could give me would be most appreciated.

Natural Hair Journey's

Last weekend I decided to blow dry my hair and flat iron it for the first time in 2 years.

I can't recall why I never straightened it before when getting my ends trimmed lol, but this time I deceded to do so to make it easier for my mom.

Weekend Recap

This past weekend was a very bitter sweet one.

Thursday I went to the fabric store with Kas and our Design team to look for fabric swatches

for our new line. Got most, but now all so we are planning a trip to NY in about a week. I'm very excited about it lol.

Thursday night I went out with a couple of my girl friends and partied at Lotus,

and Park here in DC and Friday morning I found out that my Grandfather had passed.

Still sad, but I'm doing better. My grand dad used to call me Miko (meek-o) Lol, I smile everytime I think about it. He'd be like "heeeeeey Miko" in his deep voice haha..

It was hard for people who weren't around him often to understand what he was saying but I always understood him. I'm going to miss him.

Loving Cee-Lo Green's new album "The Lady Killer" and I've been getting my musical fix via Youtube, since I havent purchased the actual album yet.

I love the whole album! and I think you guys will too. I've always been a fan of Cee-Lo and his uniqueness, and this album is EVERYTHING in my opinion lol

I made it home just in time to catch the last 30 minutes, so wish I would have been home to catch it from the beginning, Hopefully the full documentary will be up online soon.

Instead of doing two cornrows, I did two giant flat twists. I really liked the style, and it was quick and easy.

Fashion With a Purpose

A few weekends ago, I had the opportunity to assist with a great fashion show presented by the Cinderella Foundation and produced by the fabulous Maggy Francios.

The Cinderella Foundation is an amazing non-profit organization which helps to empower young African American, and African Women living in high risk, low income communities.

Their purpose is wonderful and I suggest you all take a look at their site.

I had the opportunity to assist Reco Chapelle (Bravo's The Fashion Show season 1) back stage, as well as meet Jerell Scott (Project Runway Season5). They are hilarious lol.

The event also featured Korto Momolu from Project Runway of course, Taisha Seen, Carol Hannah Whitfield, and Belafigura as seen on my blog here.
